Gisele developed "wet lungs" early this morning and needed to go back on the high-frequency ventilator (to help her lungs get the oxygen in and the CO2 out). It appears to be clearing up already, but because this ventilator wiggles the lungs she, of course, cannot go into surgery wiggling. She does not appear to have the flu or any infection. It appears to be caused by the fact that she has the Chylothorax and it just needed to be draining a bit more. After being drained a bit faster it started clearing up. If her lung situation improves enough to go back on the regular ventilator, then she should have surgery tonight. Later today her surgeon will make the decision on whether or not to move forward. I'll post an update this afternoon when I have more information.
Tiffany
1:15pm: She's having a better day. She's sleeping good, and has short periods of being calmly awake. Her surgeon thinks she should be fine going to surgery. We have to wait for the anesthesiologist to give their approval too.
5:45pm: No surgery today. Maybe in a couple more days. Nothing else significant happened to her. They just want to get her back on the regular ventilator then see stability, as in see her doing good for longer with it before surgery.
