A better morning

She had a rough afternoon yesterday. When I called to check on her at 11pm they were working on replacing the right chest tube. It wasn't draining and was backed up with fluid so it was pretty bothersome for her. After that, it started draining good. Her night nurse kept her comfy, keeping the pain in check, so she's been sleeping pretty good. This morning I was told she's still sleeping comfortably.

I'm still too sick to go into the NICU and the flu is going around here at RMH. We are praying she doesn't get the flu so she can get her operation. She is likely to have surgery Saturday but we'll see. It always depends on how she's been and how she's doing at the moment. Finding the right timing is obviously not easy, but maybe Saturday will work out.

Virgie, a family friend who used to be a NICU nurse, told me to make recordings of my voice to be played for Gisele while I'm not there. So I recorded a few Veggie Tales bible stories. The nurses tell me they play them for her and she sleeps. They're so sweet!

2:20pm: Surgery might happen tomorrow morning so long as there are no hiccups with her. Katherine joked that they're just not saying it around her so she doesn't act up. Too funny :)

    Medical History:

Born 2/7/14 eight weeks early with a large SCT tumor (Sacrococcygeal Teratoma) and lymphangiectasia causing severe chylothorax (aka pleural effusion).

She weighed about 4 lbs plus the 2.5 lb tumor.

Major five hour surgery to remove it on 2/13. Had to be resuscitated for about 90 mins when surgery was almost complete. It's a miracle she survived, and did not have significant brain damage.

The chylothorax caused a weak immune system and she passed away from a pneumonia infection on 5/21/14.
